Design with Black Tourmaline Opens the builder with this stone already picked.
Schorl is the black, iron-rich end of the tourmaline family. It grows in long striated crystals, and cut beads almost always show those lengthwise grooves – that is the giveaway against dyed howlite or glass imitations.
It is the stone people choose when they need a boundary rather than a mood: crowded commutes, open-plan offices, families that do not knock.
How to judge quality: a deep, even black with visible striations and a glassy shine. Flat, dead black that looks like plastic usually is.

Care
Hard and inert. Water is fine. It is brittle though – a hard knock can chip it, so store it away from harder stones.
