Pure quartz with nothing in it. In every tradition that uses stones, clear quartz is the amplifier – it does not carry a mood of its own so much as it turns up whatever it is sitting next to.
That makes it the most useful spacer on a strand: put it between two strong stones and it keeps them from fighting. It is also the cheapest way to add length without adding meaning you did not ask for.
How to judge quality: hold it up to a window. Good material is bright and shows almost no cloud; cheaper pieces look grey or milky.
