Design with Smoky Quartz Opens the builder with this stone already picked.
The brown is quartz that was irradiated while it sat in the ground – the same mechanism as amethyst, operating on a different impurity. Genuine smoky quartz fades slightly in strong sun over years; heat-treated material fades much faster.
It is the stone people pick when they want to come back down to earth: after a shock, during a move, or whenever the head is running faster than the situation.
How to judge quality: clarity matters more than depth here. A very dark stone that you cannot see through reads almost black on the wrist, which is a different look from a translucent mid-brown.
